About MUD Africa: MUD Africa is an apolitical non-governmental organization (NGO) with the overarching goal to improve living conditions of poor households by promoting equal land rights. Our work in the field and our projects implemented together with our local partner organisations follow the Human Rights Based Approach (HRBA). Hence, we aim to achieve sustainable results through active and meaningful participation among those concerned – in short, our main goal is to empower. MUD Africa is funded by private donors and Forum Syd.
About our local partners: MUD Africa operates in Sweden and Malawi, with two local partners in Malawi – MIRECE and LUPPEN.
Millennium Information and Resource Centre (MIRECE) is a local NGO that works to transform the livelihood of homeless ex-tobacco farmers through advocacy and empowerment projects and different resettlement, relocation projects. MIRECE currently has approximately 1700 families affiliated to the organization, residing on different idle land.
Together with MIRECE we are (2019-2021) implementing the project Voice of a Suffering Community, funded mainly by Forum Syd. The project aim is to increase the knowledge on land rights, gender equality and human rights within the settlement as a means to empower the community to advocate for their rights to human dignity and land (property) rights.
Lilongwe Urban Poor People’s Network (LUPPEN) is a local NGO with the main focus to promote participatory urban governance through empowering rights holders to hold duty bearers accountable.
Together with LUPPEN we have recently completed a needs assessment research project on selected settlements in Lilongwe and are looking into the results for possible upcoming projects.
As an intern the first semester 2020 you will be MUD Africa’s representative in the field and a part of the implementation of project activities with our local partners in Malawi as well as working with developing and maintaining MUD Africas’ communication strategy.
The purpose of the internship is to support in the following areas (not limited to):
- Support in project management
- Follow up on indicators
- Support in reporting on activities in the field
- Support and implement MUD Africas’ communication strategy
Required skills: The applicant should be involved in an education in political science, international development, social science or similar. In addition, the applicant should have good analytical skills and understand the concept of working with a bottom up percpective where the local partner organizations play the key role.
- Fluent in english
- Strong analytical skills and understand the concept of HRBA
- Experience or strong will to work in a developing country
- Interest in poverty reduction and related issues
Duration of Internship: January – June 2020
Compensation: MUD Africa is able to provide support (5 000 SEK). It does not cover all expenses of the internship.
